So a couple of months ago I brought up a topic at bullshido about bringing back standing punching and kicking into judo since one of the reasons it was taken out of it was the health and well being of the individual, and now we have so many options regarding protection of the fighter/s (Gloves, shin pads, mouthguards, helmets, metal spikes, etc.).
I think the main idea was generated not so much from watching MMA matches (somebody commented that the only thing that would come out of bringing strikes back into the game was a substandard mma), but from watching what sambo is doing regarding their combat sambo rules (I don’t know the exact rules I admit, but it looks freaking awesome).
Now, I understand that to bring this idea to certain clubs would be stupid (certain clubs only care about winning at Shiai, so incorporating striking to their curriculum would be useless to their goal), but what about opening a division, or a separate Shiai tournament with the new rules regarding striking, what do knowledgeable people (regarding combat sambo and judo) thing about it?
My thoughts are: this will bring more awareness to the practitioner when it comes to (yeah, here it comes) RBSD, the matches would be way more interesting to watch, it would open up a whole new world to practitioners (regarding venues to compete in) specially if we also bring leg locks and other banned techniques from shiai, the rules regarding groundwork and how to win/lose would have to be adapted to the new modality of competition, so it would make for something interesting enough to have a follow up, without disrupting the shiai and traditional judo competitions.
And that’s all for my rant, thank you for letting me go on a rampage (since the chances of this happening are slim to none)
